You are so right. I own a 2011 and have had nothing but problems out of this bike since I bought it a year ago with 6800 miles.

Clutch went out, had it rebuilt. It went thru a period of not even starting up and suddenly starts. Found out it had a bad wire in the starter harness that had to be replaced. The water pump has been replaced, a sensor, the brake switch and the throttle body...what's next?

What are they making these cheap *** parts out of, paper and glue?

You just feel uneasy to even try to take it out for a spin. And to top it off, it cost a arm and leg to maintain,.I'm trying to sell mine now while its running good.

BEWARE...DO NOT BUY A SPYDER!!

I owned a Spyder RS in Texas for 2 years. One thing that you learn is that in summer time, there is always two or three Can Am Spyders behind the dealership on pallets in piles of twisted melted and charred metal and plastic.

Both RT and RS models overheat from one of several places, leak, and burst into flames. When the street reaches about 200 degrees, the trike can no longer cool correctly. The temp gauge on the bike reads normal, but somewhere under the skin, the trike is melting down or boiling. It is normal for people to have skin burns from riding these trikes in the summer because of the right side fan.

You may see a recall for such a thing. But the reality is, this was a known problem for many years. This is one of those severe failures that was swept under the rug-- just like the GM ignition switch was through many model years. Eventually the defects and leaks and skin burns piled up, and Can Am could no longer ignore the problem.

The new trikes have no engine side and bottom cover. I wonder why.

I have a 2011 I just bought and have only put 2k miles on the bike, now there telling me they think itโ€™s the clutch, what did it cost to fix yours?

I worked at a dealer for a few years and I owned a Spyder RT as well. Personally I will never buy another Spyder and I am glad mine is long gone.

One season with it was enough for me! I never seen so many issues on a product before. You should see the recalls that my trike had to go through. There must of been 50 pages in the print out.

One of the big issues was that the bike could catch fire! Don't even get me started on bent rods or the burnt out clutches. Also every bike sold ended up going out the door below dealer cost, and the price still does not justify the end result.

I know they are trying hard, but it will take a lot to turn this around. The best thing to do at this point is pull it from the market until they get their *** together.

Yup. I have seen the bikes sitting on pallets behind dealers in Texas.

Burnt to a crisp. Sometimes two or three at a time, melted.

Sometimes with only the rear compartment being the only thing left recognizable. The RT and the RS.
